Liberty Steel Georgetown is an integrated steel wire rod manufacturer located in South Carolina, USA. With an annual rolling capacity of 750,000 mt per annum the business produces wire rod that is used in rubber tires (tire cord and tire bead), wire rope and pre-stressed concrete strand. It also supplies various industrial quality wire rod grades from low to high carbon content and several types of micro-alloy and medium-alloy steels.
Liberty Steel Georgetown has two electric arc furnaces, of which one is presently operational and has a capacity of 500,000MT per annum. LSG is a silicon killed steel producer with raw material derived from recycled scrap and other metallics.
The facility has ladle furnaces and a 6-strand billet caster; other equipment includes a Schloemann roughing and intermediate mill and a Kocks precision sizing mill with Morgan no-twist blocks.
The site has the ability to store DRI in silos and feed directly into the EAF. Should there be market demand Liberty Steel Georgetown can also produce deformed rebar in coil.
The diameter range of the steel wire rod manufactured on site ranges from 7/32inch (5.5MM) up to 19/32 inch (15.0MM), with wire rod coil weight is approximately 4,150lbs (1,885kilos).
At full capacity, the plant will employ approximately 270 workers and 50 salaried employees.
The plant has access to CSX rail road directly and can accommodate up to 30 rail wagons. The site is on the inland water system, covering approx. 66 acres/26.7 hectares of which 578,000 square feet/ 53,700 square meters are production facilities.
Georgetown is easily accessible through Charleston and Myrtle Beach Airports.
